The DMS Financial and Industrial Corporation became a partner of the swimming tournaments held for the prizes of renowned Paralympian Viktor Smirnov: every year, more than 300 children with special needs from all over Ukraine gathered for the competitions in Donetsk.
In particular, 287 young athletes (under 17 years of age) from virtually all regions of Ukraine participated in the 9th International Swimming Tournament for Children with Special Needs, held in honor of six-time Paralympic champion Viktor Smirnov. The competition once again proved that these children’s limits are far broader than anyone could imagine: they swam 50- and 100-meter distances in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke, setting personal records and coming close to Paralympic records.
Due to the nature of the tournament, each participant received several awards: the organizers presented over 600 medals and 12 traditional Viktor Smirnov glass trophies.
From 2006 to 2014, the tournaments were held in Donetsk with the unwavering support of the DMS Corporation and its president, Andriy Alyosha. However, with the outbreak of war, the organizers were forced to change the venue. The 12th Open Swimming Tournament for Children with Special Needs, “Believe in Yourself,” for the prizes of Paralympic champion and Hero of Ukraine Viktor Smirnov, took place in Sloviansk: that year, 150 young athletes with hearing and visual impairments, as well as musculoskeletal limitations, from 11 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv participated in the competition. DMS Corporation traditionally served as a partner and sponsor of the competition, which Andriy Alyosha called a unique platform for the development of the Paralympic movement in the region and the country as a whole.
