New fines for traffic violations come into effect in Ukraine from Wednesday

On March 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Law No. 1231-IX "On increasing liability for violation of traffic rules".

According to the law, the minimum fine was increased to 510 UAH. He will be appointed for the following offenses:

  • the absence of a helmet for a motorcyclist;
    unfastened seat belts;
  • driving a car that is not registered or re-registered in
    Ukraine according to necessary normative procedure;
  • driving a car without a license plate or with the wrong / unlighted license plate;
    violation of the rules for crossing intersections, stops, overtaking, passing a red light.

Failure to provide benefits to ambulances and other emergency services will be fined 680 UAH.

For such offense as speeding from 20 to 50 km / h will be fined for 340 UAH. For speeding more than 50 km / h an intruder will need to pay 1,700 UAH of fine.

According to the text of the new law, the creation of an emergency situation will entail a fine of 3400 UAH. If the driver leaves the scene of the accident, he will likewise face a fine of  3,400 UAH, as well as deprivation of the right to drive a car for 6 months. For damage to other vehicles or the road, you will have to pay 1,190 UAH.

Driving without a drive license will now be fined 425 UAH. In its turn, total absence of  the lisence will entail 3,400 UAH of fine. A driver who is deprived of driving and caught on a road will face a fine in the amount of 20,400 UAH with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 1–5 years.

For drunk driving, the fine will be 17,000 UAH with  revocation of a driver's license for an year. For a repeated violation during  a year, the fine will be 34,000 UAH already with

a driving license revocation for three years.

If a driver is caught drunk driving for the third time in a year, he faces a 51,000 UAH fine with deprivation of the right to drive for 10 years with the confiscation of the vehicle.

For refusal to undergo an examination for the state of alcoholic, drug or other intoxication, they can be fined 40,800 UAH.

In addition to increasing liability for car drivers, the new law also strengthens the administrative liability of pedestrians and cyclists:

  • crossing the road in the wrong place will result in a fine of 255 UAH;
  • the fine for violation of traffic rules by a cyclist will be 340 UAH; if the violator is also drunk, the amount of his fine will increase to 680 UAH;
  • for creating an emergency, the cyclist will face a fine of 850 UAH.
