On February 24, the Chairman of the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety reported on the urgent situation with traffic safety on roads and railways in Ukraine.
According to Ukrtransbezpeka, the number of car accidents in the country in 2020 decreased by 19.8% and amounted to 2288 cases, 12,224 of which occurred through the fault of drivers. The main causes of most car accidents in Ukraine were the following factors:
- non-compliance with the interval while driving - 50%
- violation of maneuvering rules - 30%
- speeding - 19%
- violation of traffic rules at intersections - 15%
The majority of road accidents are caused by drivers of licensed vehicles (88%), while only 8% and 4% of road accidents in this category of vehicles occur due to truck and taxi drivers.
The situation with traffic safety on the Ukrainian railway is also getting better. According to the updated data of the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety, the number of accidents on rail transport fell by 31%.
